Wallpaper Calculator
Calculate Wallpaper Needed
Add up all wall lengths. Subtract width of doors and large windows.
Check wallpaper label. Plain wallpaper = 0. Pattern repeat adds wastage.
Standard UK wallpaper roll: 10.05 m long × 0.53 m wide (5.33 m² coverage). Pattern repeat reduces usable length per roll. Calculation includes 10% wastage for plain paper, 15% for patterned. Always buy an extra roll for future repairs and batch matching.
How This Calculator Works
UK wallpaper typically comes in standard rolls:
- Length: 10.05 metres
- Width: 0.53 metres (53 cm)
- Coverage: 5.33 m² per roll (before wastage)
Pattern Repeat Explained
Pattern repeat is the distance before the pattern repeats vertically. It's printed on the wallpaper label (e.g. "64 cm repeat").
Why it matters: You must line up patterns across strips. A 64 cm repeat with 2.4 m walls means you'll waste offcuts from each roll.
- Plain/no pattern: Minimal wastage (10%)
- Small repeat (under 30 cm): ~12% wastage
- Large repeat (over 50 cm): ~15-20% wastage
Tips
- Buy all rolls from the same batch (batch numbers printed on label)
- Keep one extra roll for future repairs
- Chimney breasts and bay windows need extra
